WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (WLIO) — Exceeding expectations has become the standard for Noah Dotson.
The Waynesfield-Goshen High School senior does it in three sports: cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
"The best thing about Noah is he builds a culture around him that encourages others to work hard," Waynesfield-Goshen's track and field head coach Jocelyn Spencer said. "He makes everyone feel included and makes a very positive and energetic culture."
"Well, I've always loved to compete," Dotson said. "When it comes to bringing the best out of me. I feel like I'm always just happier whenever I'm doing track or doing a sport, like I just care about it so much."
"He has to trust the process. He has to work out and put in miles during the summer," Spencer said. "He always was here no matter if it was raining, it was snowing, and he encouraged others and made it fun. So he knew what he had to do to meet his goals."
In the classroom, Dotson is ranked first in his grade with a 4.0 GPA.
"As a student, he is just naturally bright. So he brings that with him, but more than that, he just makes a positive energy in the classroom," said Waynesfield-Goshen math teacher Jennifer Szippl. "He shows he's very dedicated to whatever he does, whether it's in the classroom, whether it's on the track. And I think even if it's not physically working, you know, in the track, he's thinking about calculus. If he's not doing a problem, he's asking questions about it. So he's always working. He's a very, very good, diligent student."
After high school, Dotson plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in business administration.
"I want to continue doing something with sports, so an athletic director or something around that," Dotson said. "Sports have been a huge part of my life since I was born."
Whether it's in the classroom or on the track, Dotson said the encouragement he's received from the Waynesfield-Goshen community pushed him to become his best.
"I always want to remember where I came from," Dotson said. "Like they've always brought me up. They've never put me down. Most of my memories come here and just the great times and they've allowed me to grow as a person. I'm going to miss it."
Coach Spencer added, "I hope he has pride and he knows that he made a huge impact on the W-G cross country program and the track program, and I hope that he feels as influenced by us as we do by him."
Congratulations to Noah Dotson — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
