OTTOVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — The Midwest Athletic Conference met the Putnam County League on Thursday night, and St. Henry proved why it’s one of the area’s volleyball powerhouses. The Redskins swept Columbus Grove in straight sets, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15, to advance in tournament play.
Columbus Grove started strong but couldn’t keep pace with St. Henry’s balanced attack. Nicole Nesby sparked the Bulldogs early with an ace that pulled Grove within seven in the opening set. But St. Henry quickly regained control, closing the set as Renee Wendel sealed it with quick hands at the net.
The Redskins dominated the second set, opening with a 7-1 run capped by a powerful kill from senior Karlee Buschur. Addy Homan added to the momentum, finding gaps in the Bulldogs’ defense to help St. Henry take the frame 25-12.
In the third, St. Henry continued to roll. Morgan Baumer’s ace fueled a 10-2 surge that put the match out of reach. Columbus Grove battled back behind a kill from Lydia Sarka to trim the deficit to 21-15, but the Redskins closed it out as Mylee Kramer’s spike split the defense for the final point.
With the win, St. Henry moves on to face the winner of Fairfield Cincinnati Christian and Ansonia next Wednesday at Northmont.
