Wapakoneta (WLIO) — Wapakoneta extended its winning streak over Celina to five straight games with a 24-7 victory on Friday night in Western Buckeye League action.
The Redskins struck first in the opening quarter when quarterback Caleb Moyer powered in from a yard out to make it 7-0. Celina answered in the second quarter, capitalizing on a Wapakoneta fumble recovery. Parker Wynk connected on a deep pass to Cohen Harter, then found Carson Weitzel on a crossing route for the game-tying score.
Wapakoneta regained momentum late in the first half with Drew Niekamp drilling a field goal to put the Redskins back in front 10-7. From there, it was all Wapak, as the defense locked down and the offense outscored Celina 14-0 in the second half.
The win improves Wapakoneta’s record while continuing its dominance in the rivalry, with Celina’s last victory in the series coming in 2020.
