WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta defended its home floor Friday night, pulling away in the second half for a 64-39 boys basketball win over Allen East in the Hoops Friday Night Spotlight Game.
The matchup featured two of the area’s top teams, with the 7-0 Redskins hosting the 7-1 Mustangs in a showdown between the best records in the Western Buckeye League and the Northwest Conference. Wapakoneta led by eight at halftime before extending the margin after the break.
Allen East struck first in the second half, converting an offensive rebound into a three-pointer from the top of the key. Wapakoneta answered with quick ball movement that led to a layup by Caleb Adams, helping the Redskins keep control of the game.
Deacon Jones and Brady Brooks provided offense for the Mustangs, with Brooks finishing through contact for an and-one. Still, Wapakoneta continued to build its lead behind Blake Rogers’ turnaround jumper, Adams’ cutting finishes, and a lob in transition from Adams to Ryan Richardson.
Wapakoneta pulled away down the stretch to secure the 64-39 win and remain unbeaten on the season.
