WAPAKONETA (WLIO) — Wapakoneta built an early cushion and made it hold, defeating Lima Central Catholic 53-46 at Wapakoneta High School.
The 11-1 Redskins came out aggressive against the 9-5 Thunderbirds, jumping on LCC early behind junior Blake Rogers. Rogers attacked the basket for a strong finish and later set up Ryan Richardson for a three-point play as Wapakoneta outscored Lima Central Catholic 26-14 in the opening quarter.
Lima Central Catholic answered in the second quarter behind senior Jordan Priddy, who knocked down a contested floater to keep the Thunderbirds within reach despite trailing by double digits. Wapakoneta continued to control the pace, with Zadyn Hower slipping inside for a layup to give the Redskins a 33-21 lead at halftime.
After the break, Priddy continued to carry the offensive load for LCC, grabbing his own miss and converting the putback on his way to a game-high 19 points.
Despite the late push, Wapakoneta had an answer. Richardson drilled an open three to help seal the win, finishing with a team-high 17 points. Rogers added 12 for the Redskins, who held on down the stretch for the seven-point victory.
