Thursday evening was the opening for "Mirror Mirror," an exhibit curated back in 2022 by the museum's new director, Dr. Christine Fowler Shearer. It focuses on the diverse experiences and identities of women and includes around 50 pieces created by 14 artists in with variety of mediums, styles, and compositions. The exhibit aims to both give insight into the unique experiences from woman to woman, and present stories that viewers can interpret and relate to in their own way.

"For me, again, thinking about the fertility of the land, the beauty of the land, it tells you something about who I am and where I came from. With the other piece, I am specifically talking about motherhood," Mabi Ponce de Leon, a multi-media artist, said of her work on display in the exhibit.

"Mirror Mirror" also looks to increase the recognition and representation women receive for their artwork in professional settings.

"Part of the reason for the exhibit being on women is that women a lot of times are not included in major exhibitions, they're not included in major collections. Yet they are very much a part of the artistic world and they tend to have a very strong story to tell," Dr. Shearer Fowler explained.

The exhibit will be on display at the Allen County Museum during their regular hours through March 23rd. "Mirror Mirror" is the first of several traveling exhibits the museum plans to display this year.
