LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools is making sure students across the district get a little extra learning outside of the classroom.

Monday, the Spartan Ride made its first stop of the school year at Heritage Elementary. The old school bus has been converted into a mobile library where kids and parents can pick up books, activities, flashcards, and information about community resources. It stops at several schools in the district at the end of the school day throughout the year, and all items are free to keep. Parents appreciate the Spartan Ride because it gets their kids excited to learn at home.

"The kids love to come on the bus and see the books and grab books, and flashcards are a big hit with the kids, actually. And they always like to just check it out and see what's new. We try to find materials that are tailored toward different age groups and hit different kids' interest levels so that we can find out what that interest is and pique that interest and get them really excited about their learning beyond the classroom," said Laura Wells Parent, federal programs title I coordinator for Lima City Schools.
