The zoning commission voted 3 to 1 to recommend the Bath Township Board of Trustees deny the request.
BATH TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - The Bath Township Zoning Commission heard feedback from residents on a possible rezoning.
The commission met Thursday night to hear public comments on the proposed rezoning of land owned by Resource Recycling on the corner of Bible Road and Stewart Road from agricultural to manufacturing.
Compost is already produced on the property, but this plan would allow the company to also bag it on-site. Residents brought several concerns to the commission, like increased semi-traffic damaging roads and slowing down school traffic, and noise or light pollution.
If approved, there could be an increase in tax revenue for the township and more than two dozen jobs created over several years. The owner says that composting is greener than many other manufacturing processes and that the rezoning would not result in a drastic change in operations.

"We're just wanting to expand our business. To do more packaging, we need more room, so that's why we bought the property. We could still do composting there; the only thing that would change is whether or not we build a building on the property for actual production of packaging the product once it's composted," explained Micah Hollinger, the president of Resource Recycling.
The zoning commission voted 3 to 1 to recommend the Bath Township Board of Trustees deny the request. The trustees will hold another public hearing, the date yet to be announced, before coming to a final decision.
