A man who charged with having sexual contact with a young teenage boy last year wants a new lawyer moving forward for his case. Marcos Gonzalez Barcenas sent the judge a letter asking that he have a Spanish-speaking attorney represent him in his case. English is not his first language, and he believes that he and his current attorney are not seeing eye to eye on his case, because of the language barrier.
The 54-year-old Gonzalez-Barcenas is facing two counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery for allegedly having sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy. Because of the seriousness of the charges, the judge said she will find an attorney who is fluent in Spanish to be co-council on the case. The judge also pushed back the trial that was supposed to start in January, to give her time to find another attorney and get them up to speed on the case. According to records the offenses occurred multiple times over roughly a year time period.
