ADA, OH (WLIO) — Ada hosted its 113th annual Farmers and Merchants Picnic to celebrate the history and traditions of the village.
The event featured live music and raffle drawings, along with numerous food stands, craft vendors and games for children. Families also could enjoy activities including laser tag, axe-throwing, ring toss and train rides around the park. Board members said the picnic helps keep traditions in the village alive while strengthening community connections.
“I've been coming out here since I was a little girl, and I think a lot of the people that are on the board and who come out here just do it to keep our traditions of Ada going," said Joni Henry. "We really enjoy having something that's been going on for a long time, and it kind of feels like it's part of us and makes us home."
Funds raised through the picnic go toward projects at War Memorial Park. Park officials said they are always looking for ways to improve the event and respond to community feedback.
“We try to give the community what they want within our budget reason. We've had board members change, but we're always asking the public after the picnic on Facebook: what did you like about the picnic, what would you like to change, and what would you want to see?" said Ken Wolke, park manager.
The festivities opened with a horse show in the morning, followed by a parade and the crowning of a village prince and princess.
