ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities is recognizing hard work from their professionals.

These professionals provide care directly to their clients with disabilities throughout the day and night in their homes, through day programs, and in the community.
The board held a small luncheon today at Milano Cafe, where they thanked 13 different 'direct support professionals' or DSPs. "DSPs are the ones who are putting the work in every day, so they really are equal partners in supporting the developmentally disabled in their community. So we feel it's very important to recognize that. Hopefully, we do that all year, but we do want to set some special time aside to do that as well," said Renee Kohler, superintendent at the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

"Watching the enjoyment of the individuals I serve be happy for doing something for themselves or just the excitement they have or just the little things that they get to do and accomplish. Some are even working. They get to get a paycheck. Just helping them keep fulfilling the life they can fulfill," commented Kristy McPheron, a direct support professional.
