ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Allen County Job and Family Services wants to warn SNAP cardholders about several skimming incidents that have been reported.
Officials say they have had dozens of reports of unauthorized use of clients' cards.
Officials say they have had dozens of reports of unauthorized use of clients' cards. Their statements show multiple purchases from the New York area that emptied their account. Allen County Job and Family Services says that this seems to be happening across the nation due to the EBT cards being skimmed during legitimate purchases. They say the State of Ohio is investigating and there is a way to protect your account.
"The way to be able to counteract this is you can lock your card after each use through the vendor. You just go to their website, and it explains how to do that. Or there is a 1-800 number on the card you can call where they can walk you through doing that," said Joe Patton, director of Allen County Job & Family Services.
Patton says they will replace the dollar amount that was skimmed and can be done by going online to https://acjfs.org/ and searching for "SNAP Skimming Replacement." Fill out that form to get the process started.
