Allen County Common Pleas Court has been holding contempt of court hearings over the past week on jurors who failed to show up for their jury summons in the case that they were supposed to serve, and in the situation when there are not enough potential jurors, the judge does have an option to send out the sheriff to serve summons to random people congregated in areas such as grocery stores or restaurants in order to get the minimum requirement for a jury trial.

"It's provided for in the law that if we run out of qualified jurors in any particular case, we can have the sheriff go out anywhere in the community, generally we'll go to a department store or grocery stores, where there's a congregation of people and give them summonses to come in, instantly, or in this case, we have them come in the next morning," explained Judge Jeffrey Reed, Allen County Court judge.

More contempt hearings are currently scheduled in Allen County Common Pleas Court.
