LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Food, fun, and a lot of important information was to be found at the 3rd annual Allen County Veterans Family Picnic. Different veterans’ organizations were on hand to help get people signed up for or talk about the various programs that veterans can take advantage of. The VA also had items for veterans in need. P&G donated a variety of items to give to people who attended the picnic. The Allen County Veterans Commission started the picnic not only to say thank you to the veterans but also to raise awareness of the variety of services available to them.
"Especially with the younger veterans, they are working through the week, or the kids are at school, and they just feel like that this isn't for them. So, we wanted to do something that the whole family was included. That's why we are doing it on a Saturday, and we wanted to make it family friendly so they can feel like they can involve their kids and introduce their kids to what they have been through or the resources that they have," says Tamara Wilson, Ex. Dir. Allen Co. Veterans Commission.Â
If you are a veteran and would like to know more about the resources you can take advantage of, the Allen County Veterans Commission is in the Allen County Courthouse. They are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
