Allen County Youth Bike and Pedestrian Task force held free lesson on bicycle repair basics

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Many young people rely on a bicycle for transportation, so it's important that they know how to fix them if something were to happen.

The Allen County Youth Bike and Pedestrian Task Force invited young people to Cranker's Cycling for a free seminar on how to perform common bike repairs by yourself. Professionals at the shop demonstrated what to do and what tools you'd need in case of problems like a flat tire, and let participants practice themselves.

Most kids don't realize how easy these repairs are once you learn, and fewer know that there are free stations in town you can visit that have all the necessary tools for the job.

"One is at The Wheelhouse on Elm Street behind Elm Street Church of the Brethren and at the bike fix-it station, people can bring their bikes and lift it up and put air in their tires. And there are different tools attached to the fix-it station like wrenches, and screwdrivers, etc., to help tighten anything that needs tightened," explained Bri Buzard, the Creating Healthy Communities coordinator for Allen County Public Health.

The fix-it station outside Cranker's on Main Street will be complete and available to use later this fall.
