LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Mark your calendars for the 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast.

The breakfast is set for Monday, Jan. 19, at 8 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center. Every year, the Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority invites the community to come together to honor Dr. King.

Along with the breakfast, organizers are holding a service project, collecting books for children from preschool through 12th grade. Anyone who donates will be entered into a raffle. The featured speaker is Lima native Dr. Ariel C. Williams, and Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith will deliver the statement of occasion. This year’s theme is “Now Is the Time.” Organizers say their goal is to focus on ways to strengthen the Lima community.

“I think that there's so much going on in the world, and for us to remember that we have our voice, and now is the time for us to to stand up, to embrace our community, to make the Lima community better, and so we just give everyone that charge. Now is the time, you know, let's, let's be active. Let's do, do some things for the betterment of our community,” said Robin Frazier, president of the Lima chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 10 and under and can be purchased from sorority members or at the door.
