LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Allen County Children Services is asking for continued support for a levy they say will support their mission of protecting kids.
On the November 4th ballot, the agency has put on a renewal of a .5 mil, five-year levy that helps cover their expenses. About 75 percent of Children Services' budget comes from state and federal funds. But to get those funds, the agency needs a local match which they raise through levies.
"This Levy was first passed in 1996, and for almost 30 years, the Allen County public has supported us in the mission we do, and this funding is really critical for us to be able to respond to well over 700 reports of abuse and neglect just in last year," said Sarah Newland, executive director of Allen County Children Services. "Providing the services and ensuring safety of our community's children is what this money directly supports."
For an Allen County resident with a $100,000 home, this levy costs $10 a year in taxes. Early voting is currently underway for the general election.
