LIMA, OH (WLIO) - What is a Habitat?  That question was on everyone’s mind in a unique benefit for the Lima Area Habitat for Humanity. 14 artists defined what the word “Habitat” means to them through their art at an exhibit at ArtSpace Lima.  While some artists focused on a house or structure, others looked to the animal kingdom and where they call home.  One of the artist Judy Greavu sculptures depicts the threat to the Manatees habitat in Florida, as their food source continues to disappear.

“These grasses are endangered, they are getting killed by fertilizers and then the Manatees have nothing to eat,” says Greavu.  “The grasses are gone the Manatees die.  So, habitat in a broader sense”

The money raised from the event will help Lima Habitat with their upcoming projects.

“For 2024, our goal is to build two homes here in Lima and we also just started a program called “Singles of Hope” and we will be doing 10 roof repairs next year,” says Caleb Farmer, Habitat for Humanity Lima Area.  “We got a head start on that this year, and that will be through a partnership with St. Rita’s and grant through Habitat Ohio.  We are looking for supporters to join with, so we can push that number even higher with the funds that we have.”
