LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Civic Center stage transformed into a dance floor today as the 10th annual Dance Prodigy Competition is set to take place on Sunday (2/23).

Big stage, big moves: dancers gear up for Dance Prodigy Competition

For the first time, organizers offered classes for competitors on Saturday afternoon. Judges for tomorrow’s competition taught the dancers some choreography ahead of the big event. The opportunity provides traveling competitors with a more local setting. Even on the big stage, the dancers performed like there was no tomorrow.

"It's very exciting. They were all very nervous and shy at first, and then they kind of came out of their shell a little bit. But you could tell that they were all very focused, very into it, and excited and passionate. I was really proud to see so many dancers kind of coming out of their comfort zone and trying something new, especially training under these amazing teachers. They did really well," said Meghan Mulcahy, one of the directors for the competition.

"I have been dancing for seven years, and I've done Dance Project competitions for three years. It was a really fun experience, and I just really enjoy getting to dance," said Lily Mears, one of the participants.

The competition will take place on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Civic Center. Doors open at 7 am., and dancing begins at 8 am.
