LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima City Schools is celebrating "Music in Our Schools Month."
In celebration, Lima City Schools held a concert on Thursday featuring Lima Senior and seventh and eighth-grade choir students.
This marks the 40th year that the National Association for Music Education has observed the occasion, a time when music education takes center stage in schools and communities across the nation. Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith issued a proclamation after the first performance, recognizing the month and the district's music programs.
"Music is such an important part of a student's life, as far as social and emotional learning goes in a choir and in a band and orchestra, those music programs really give students from every different level, every different background, an opportunity to come together and sing," said Amy Phillips, choir director at Lima Senior.
The district will highlight its programs on its social media pages throughout the month of March.
