LIMA, OH (WLIO) – Chiles-Laman Funeral Home kept the Halloween spirit alive by hosting its 4th annual Trunk or Treat event at the Shawnee Chapel.

Children dressed in costumes stopped by around 20 decorated vehicles to collect candy and enjoy a variety of themed displays — from butterflies to monsters. After filling their bags, families were treated to free apple cider and freshly made popcorn. All of the volunteers at the event were either Chiles-Laman staff members or their family. For the funeral home, hosting community events like this is part of what it means to be a local business.

“We love passing out candy every year. We look forward to it. Everyone looks forward to decorating their trunks, seeing everybody. It's a good way to get our families together, to see all the other families too. We like having the community involved, and we like being involved in the community,” said Abby Chandler of Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services.

This year’s event also featured a pumpkin decorating contest for local kindergarten through third-grade classes. Nearly 40 classrooms participated, and the staff selected one winner per grade to receive a pizza party.
