LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Area democrats wanted to get into some good trouble with a protest outside a congressman's office.

Democrats rally in Lima to defend Haitian protected status

A recent decision by the secretary of homeland security shortened Haiti's temporary protected status from 18 months to 12 months.

No matter the weather, area democrats gathered outside congressman Jim Jordan's lima office in support of the Haitian community. A recent decision by the secretary of homeland security shortened Haiti's temporary protected status from 18 months to 12 months. This means the T-P-S for the Haitians will now end on Aug. 3, 2025 instead of February 2026. Local democrats organized the protest to raise awareness to the issue.

"I hope that more people are aware, and I hope more people understand that some of the stories being told about the immigrants coming into our country are not true.  If they can look into it, maybe meet somebody, hear their stories about how they had to flee Haiti because of the horrible violence there. I hope it just raises awareness, and maybe it'll make a change in what's happening right now, with our administration," said Terri Blosser, organizer of the protest.
