LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – It took an Allen County jury about an hour and a half to decide the fate of former Allen County Regional Transit Authority Director Shelia Haney.
Haney was found guilty of theft in office, four counts of tampering with records, tampering with evidence, and telecommunications fraud.
While she served as director of the RTA, Haney allegedly stole approximately $27,000. Investigators said she got the agency to pay for personal expenses and kept money from the sale of old RTA vehicles, which she claimed were obsolete and donated.
The theft was uncovered by the Ohio Auditor’s Office, which prosecuted the case after auditing the RTA’s financial records.
Haney was taken into custody, bond has been set at $50,000. She will be sentenced in August.
