LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The annual Lima Memorial Day parade will march through Downtown Lima on Monday.

The parade has always been a Memorial Day service and celebration of Lima and remembering veterans who have served and sacrificed so much for our freedoms. The parade is organized by the Friends of Lima, and they are still taking applications for anyone who wishes to be in the parade or those who want to donate to the parade.

The parade will begin at 10 am on Monday down Main Street in Lima and there will be a military fly over at 10:20 am during the parade.

Friends of Lima to put on Memorial Day parade and other festivities

The parade will begin at 10 am on Monday down Main Street in Lima and there will be a military fly over at 10:20 am during the parade.

For the co-founders of Friends of Lima, the Memorial Day parade holds a special place in the hearts of their family.

"Mark Moore, did the parade for 30 years before we came along, and after COVID, we went three or four years without having a parade, and we decided we had to step up to fill Mark's shoes to do the parade," said Aaron Poling, president of the Friends of Lima. "We've gotten tremendous community response, and the parade is as good as it's ever been. We really wanted, as an homage to Mark Moore, to do well with the parade - do the parade right for him and all the ones that have served."

"We just want to make sure that we remember what the parade is about, what that day is about - it is about remembering the ones who have sacrificed, the ultimate sacrifice, in order for us to actually stand here today in order us to have this parade," said Adena Poling, co-founder of the Friends of Lima. "I just want to remember that the people who never made it back, the people who sacrificed their fathers, their mothers, their sisters, their brothers; we're here to honor those people."

The parade begins on Monday, May 26th at 10 am. There will be a military flyover at 10:20 am.

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony at the American Legion Post 96 at noon. After the parade there will be events as well going on at the Social House in the Central District.

From 1 to 5 pm there will be live music from the band Never Again, with a $5r entry fee. There will also be a hog roast going on and meal tickets are $15.
