LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Have you ever heard of the “Great Pumpkin Commonwealth”? If not, you can learn all about it the first weekend in October in Lima.

The “Pumpkin Invasion” will be an official G-P-C weigh-off event to see how big a pumpkin can grow. Giant pumpkins will fill the corner of South Union and East Spring streets as Social House hosts this new community event October 3-4.

Giant gourds and family fun take center stage at Lima’s Pumpkin Invasion

Fans of Food Network’s Halloween Wars may recognize Social House owner Shannon Gerasimchik, who competed on season seven as the pumpkin carving artist for Team “Morbid Masterminds.” Gerasimchik has gathered a group of professional carvers to showcase their skills turning the giant gourds into works of art.

“It's going to be a whole, whole bunch of artistry. These these guys are extremely talented. They will, you know, take the pumpkin, will flip it up on end, make it really tall. These guys will, you know, look at the pumpkin and see what's inside of it and and really create some amazing things,” Gerasimchik said.

The “Pumpkin Invasion” will also feature family-friendly activities, including pumpkin painting, games, food trucks, and more. Visitors can even participate in an amateur pumpkin carving competition.

The festivities begin Friday, October 3, at 3 p.m., with the weigh-off starting at 5 p.m. The event continues Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., at South Union and East Spring streets in downtown Lima. Carvers will be working throughout the day.
