LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A Lima City Council member is working to keep guns out of the hands of children by encouraging residents to lock them up.
Derry Glenn, Lima’s Sixth Ward councilman, has launched a campaign to purchase lockboxes for firearms that residents may have in their homes. The boxes use combination locks to prevent younger people from accessing them. His mission is to help protect families from tragedies involving guns while also promoting responsible gun ownership.
“That it's very important that we take to this, you know, we try to save our kids. This one step we're doing to save our kids. We want our city to be a ‘Store it Safe’ community, our goal is not to take guns out the homes, but we want to make a safe zone for the families,” Glenn said.
