LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A property was donated to the Johnny Appleseed Park Districts to create a nature space.

Donated in early 2019, Dr. Herbert Beil and his wife Elfi decided to give over their property in order for local residents to enjoy nature. The new name for the donated property is Beil's Buck Run Nature Area, and consists of 50 acres, 3 ponds, and open prairie habitats. This property borders the west side of the Auglaize River and the northwest side of Buck Run Creek. Plans for this property include opening in early June, 1.5 miles of hiking trails, an overlook deck along the river, and wildlife viewing blinds.

"So, it's more of a natural area. So people think about parks, they think about playgrounds and paved surfaces, and bike trails, and that kind of thing. This will be more of a passive area with hiking trails, more natural hiking trails through the woods. There will be some ponds out there that people can enjoy, as well as some good birding and other viewing opportunities," says Tyler B. Black, executive director for Johnny Appleseed Park District.

He adds that this nature area is meant to have minimal improvements. To stay updated on the property check out the Johnny Appleseed Park District website.
