King Car Show raises funds for Lima Salvation Army programs

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – People who came out to Faurot Park on Sunday afternoon enjoyed live music, classic vehicles and more — all for a good cause.

This was the 12th year the King Car Show was held to raise money for the Lima Salvation Army. More than 150 cars, trucks and motorcycles were on display in the park. The event draws hundreds of people, and through food sales, raffles and entrance fees, the money raised stays in the community to support the many programs at the Salvation Army.

“It helps with, like helping with buying Christmas toys, or every day, handing out food baskets or soup kitchen in the evening on Sunday evening. So it helps out with a lot. It's a blessing knowing that you know a lot of people like to do this, and they come out here just for this one too," says Capt. Charity Bender, Lima Salvation Army.

The fundraiser has grown considerably over the last dozen years.

“It was originally out in Perry Township and we only had like 25 cars. It was a little place at a at an event out there that we had, and I got with the Salvation Army back then, and I said, Hey, I want to pick an organization that would be great for to give money to and help out. And I got with the Salvation Army, and I've been with them ever since,” says Richie Crouch, Founder, King Car Show.

Some of the car, truck and motorcycle owners drove away with bragging rights and a trophy from this year’s car show.
