LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima Area United Methodist Churches were trying to make it easy for people to kick off the Lenten season.

Ashes to Go was a drive thru event for Ash Wednesday. During the lunch hour, people could drive up in their vehicle and receive ashes on their forehead and a prayer. Some folks even walked up to receive the ashes in the sign of a cross. It's the beginning of the season of lent leading up to Easter.

"Ash Wednesday begins this journey towards Easter - it goes through the last times of Jesus's life, considers his passion, the things that he's done for us, his own journey and our journey alongside him," said pastor Eva Marie Wolfe of Shawnee United Methodist Church. "Not everyone can go to a worship service that is scheduled, maybe in the evening or any particular time, but may want to have this opportunity to interact and receive God's grace in A special way as we begin the Lenten season."
