LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — While classes may be out for the summer, activities are just getting started at the Lima Community Aquatic Park.
The aquatic park launched its summer schedule of special events Friday with its "Out of School Bash," giving students discounted admission as a way to celebrate the start of summer vacation. Families took advantage of the warm weather by spending the day swimming, relaxing and enjoying the park's attractions. LaDonna James of Lima brought her grandson and great-niece to the event after learning about it online.
"Everybody's doing really well and I brought my grandson and my great niece out today, but I had seen on the website that today was the out of school bash and I was like okay well I'm going to take my great niece and my grandson. So I just came out and I wanted to get here at 11:00 so I can get me a nice seat under some shade and let them play," James said.
The Out of School Bash is the first of several themed events planned at the aquatic park this summer. Upcoming activities include Lima City Employees Appreciation Day, First Responders Appreciation Day and Veteran Appreciation Day. Additional events scheduled throughout the season include a Glow Stick Night Under the Stars celebration, Christmas in July festivities and Fourth of July events.
Park officials hope the special programs will encourage residents to visit throughout the summer while providing fun opportunities for families to gather and stay active.
