LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Friday marks the first day of summer, and with temperatures heating up, many people took the opportunity to soak up some sunshine.

Faurot Park was a popular destination, especially the splash pad, where area kids stayed cool in the heat. Several families, along with children from the City of Lima’s Summer Playground Program, spent time running through the water jets and enjoying the summer weather. More than 50 kids were at the splash pad on Friday, and a few of them shared the excitement they’re having this summer season.

Several families, along with children from the City of Lima’s Summer Playground Program, spent time running through the water jets and enjoying the summer weather.

“What sorts of fun things do you guys do during the summer months?” we asked. “Play at the splash pad and eat some ice cream to cool us down in summer,” Erica McDonald responds, who was enjoying the splash pad.

“What’s your favorite, most favorite part about summer?” we asked. “Like you get to play in the water and stuff,” Allyn Sinica responds, who was enjoying the splash pad.

“Tell everyone at home as to what your favorite thing about summer is?” we asked. “Having fun and you don’t have to go to school,” Dakota Rogers responds, who was enjoying the splash pad.

The summer solstice officially arrives at 10:42 p.m. Friday.
