LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A Lima firefighter and paramedic has been recognized for his dedication to keeping the community safe.

The Lima Noon Sertoma Club honored Jacob Shivley with the John Brookman Firefighter of the Year Award. Shivley has served with the Lima Fire Department for four years but grew up around the firehouse, following in the footsteps of his brother, who is also a career firefighter.

He says achieving his goal of working for the Lima Fire Department and alongside those who nominated him for the award is a meaningful accomplishment.

“It means more than you can honestly put into words. Without them I wouldn't be able to do this. We're a team. We're more than a team. We're a family. So to work by their side in the city of Lima is a great honor. This could have gone to a number of people. There's so many great firefighters that work for the city,” said Jacob Shivley, John Brookman Firefighter of the Year.
