LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – It’s a rite of passage for firefighters as they complete their first year of service — they are no longer the "probie." Dylan Lord and Evan Miller received their helmet shields, badges and pins Tuesday after completing their probationary period with the Lima Fire Department.

Both firefighters were recognized for their strong work ethic and dependability. Over the past year, they’ve rotated through all three shifts, gaining experience in all aspects of the department’s operations. Miller and Lord have shown a strong commitment to both the department and the residents they serve.

“Lots of EMS calls, lots of fire calls. You're going to use your skills,” said Lord. “That's not something that every fire department in the area can say, but it's something that LFD is proud to do, and we're proud to provide that service to our citizens.”

Lord recently became a certified car seat technician and completed his paramedic training. Miller is set to begin his paramedic training at Rhodes State College this fall.
