LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima-based ministry is asking for help to protect orphaned children in Haiti who are facing increasing violence and insecurity.
Good Heart Ministry, which has supported an orphanage in Haiti for years, is raising concerns about the children’s safety. Ministry officials say the current building housing the children is no longer structurally sound and is located in an area where gang violence is on the rise.
“There is gang activity now in the community,” said Sandra Liechty, treasurer of Good Heart Ministry. “We are working now to raise money to help the orphanage move from the old rental facility to a safer area. They’re renovating a facility on an island off the coast, where the children could live together in safety.”

There are growing fears that the children are being harmed as crime escalates in the region. A new, safer location has been found, but the building requires repairs before it can be used.
“So what we can do now is just have some people come on board and donate,” said Guy Amos Marcelin, CEO of Good Heart Ministry. “We can get enough money to buy black cement and gravel to get things done by July.”
Donations are being accepted to help make the necessary improvements. More information about the mission and other projects can be found at goodheartministry.org, where donations can also be made online.
