LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — K9 Axe, a Lima police dog, has died after a battle with cancer.
K9 Axe and his handler, Patrolman Wireman, graduated from the K9 Academy in 2024 and were assigned to third shift. The department says K9 Axe helped officers seize illegal narcotics and apprehend hundreds of suspects, helping keep the community safe.
Police say K9 Axe shared a strong bond with Patrolman Wireman, his children, and the entire department. They say K9 Axe leaves behind a huge impact on everyone who knew and worked with him, and their thoughts are with Patrolman Wireman and his family.
