Lima Senior Athletes inspire young students for Read Across America Week

After showcasing some of their skills on the basketball court, they brought their talents into the classroom by reading to the elementary students.

The basketball players and cheerleaders were excited to serve as role models for the young Spartans.

“These kids look up to us, and it just feels good to give back and come to read to them. You know, this is my old school, so it was good to visit and see all the old teachers and see all the young ones that are coming up or that are going to be in the high school soon,” said Shawn Foster, a sophomore at Lima Senior.

“It makes me feel great that I'm a role model to them, and honestly, hopefully it encourages them to get into sports like cheer, basketball, all of that. That way they could stay focused and have people to support them along the way,” said Terrionna Bagley, a senior at Lima Senior.

Read Across America Week begins Sunday, coinciding with Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
