Lima Symphony Orchestra brings books to life with music during Storytime series

DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Symphony Orchestra is continuing to inspire a love of music through its Symphony Storytime series.

The traveling program stopped at the Delphos Public Library on Monday morning, featuring Spanish-based music for young children.

The series visits libraries across seven local counties, combining storytelling with live music to bring books to life. During the program, titled “Orchestra Olé,” children were introduced to the sounds of the violin, viola and cello.

Library staff say the program offers a unique addition to their regular storytime programming.

“It’s incredibly important to support the arts, and it’s kind of like it’s nice to bring literacy and music together, especially because music helps children understand language better, slows things down, it kind of helps them understand stories better. And so it’s a really natural pairing that I enjoy having here,” says Rachel Strahm, Delphos Library’s Youth Services Librarian.

The Symphony Storytime series will continue at libraries throughout the region in the coming months.
