LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Lima YMCA is continuing its Kids Summer Day Camp program for kids to hang out with other children and do fun activities over their summer break.

The summer program runs every weekday in summer, with every week having themed events and field trips offered to kids. Lunch is also provided through Lima City Schools' free lunch service. Activities included scratch-off painting and kickball as part of the "Color Craze" theme. Officials with the program say that it is dedicated to providing affordable child care and working with families that may not be able to cover the full cost.

"It's very affordable for most families that need the place and the child care," said Skylynn Prine, the youth and team development director at the Lima YMCA.

"We work with several different families that that maybe can't afford the whole cost. We offer scholarships to help them out with that. We had a lot of donations given to us to help cover the cost of field trips this year. Our parents do not have to cover any of the field trips or anything. It's safe and affordable for the families in our community."

Kids are put in groups based on age to allow them to do age-appropriate activities. Officials and kids say that the program allows kids to get out of the house and interact with other children over the summer.

"It helps you get out of your comfort zone, meet new friends, play a lot of fun games, and just have a lot of fun, because after school you still need to learn things, and having fun is a great way to learn new things," said Mmasichi Ezema, a program attendant.

The program is being offered until Aug. 14. Parents can find information on registering on the YMCA website under the summer camp program or they can stop by the building to fill out the paperwork. Officials recommend signing up ahead of time.
