LIMA, OH (WLIO) – Lima’s Healthy Kids Running Series is continuing its mission of showing kids the benefits of going for a run.

Megan Joseph brought the national program to Lima a couple of years ago to give kids an introduction to the sport of running. Even though the participants run distances ranging from a 50-yard dash to a full mile, parents and grandparents enjoy cheering them on from the sidelines.

The Lima series holds two five-week sessions each year. The program is open to children ages 2 to 14, offering not only physical activity but also benefits for their mental well-being.

The program is open to children ages 2 to 14, offering not only physical activity but also benefits for their mental well-being.

“Since the kids are a lot younger, we start them on the lower end of the races, but it still, you know, helps with that cardiovascular ability, but also with, you know, mental health and building confidence and just learning how to be, you know, focused and, you know, strategizing. The older kids run a mile, so they're strategizing, they're being competitive. So I think it just really kind of keeps them straight and narrow and helps them kind of learn that competitive edge, but in a healthy way,” said Megan Joseph with Lima’s Healthy Kids Running Series.

The next session begins Sept. 14, and registration costs about $50 for all five weeks. To sign up, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Lima/HealthyKidsRunningSeriesLimaOH
