LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - 4th graders at St. Charles getting a hands-on experience with all 88 keys of the piano on Friday.

Lima Symphony Orchestra music director Andrew Crust and guest piano soloist David Lai visited the students in the chapel to play and teach the students about playing the piano. David is a blind piano soloist with a decorated resume in music and will be performing with the Lima Symphony Orchestra this weekend.

The students learned about the different keys of the piano as well as the pedals and even got to play improv jazz music alongside Lai, which for him is a great opportunity to inspire young musicians.

"I really enjoy doing outreach; I've done this before, when I was doing a residency with another classical music radio program called 'Performance Today'," said Lai. "They also did a similar residency, and I really had fun. Every time presents a different kind of opportunity to explore events and also repertoire that might be appealing to different people."

You can see Lai and the Lima Symphony perform on Saturday, April 5th at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center for their Gershwin and the American Sound concert, which begins at 7:30 pm.
