LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Nothing gets your heart pumping on Valentine’s Day like Walk with a Doc at the Lima YMCA.
The program gives Mercy Health resident doctors the opportunity to connect with the community in an informal setting to talk about health-related topics. Since it was Valentine’s Day, the focus of this February walk was on heart health. Doctors discussed eating healthily, exercising, reducing stress and improving sleep as ways people can improve their heart health on their own. But keeping your doctor in the loop is equally important.
“I think the biggest preventative measure is just to be aware of what you're doing on a daily basis in terms of taking care of yourself and making sure that you see your doctor on a regular basis, because they're the ones that really kind of keep track of what your cholesterol levels are doing and keeping you accountable for exercising and eating healthy,” says Dr. Claire Beckley, Family Medicine, Mercy Health-St. Rita’s.
The next Walk with a Doc will be March 14 at 9 a.m. at the Lima YMCA. The topic will be the importance of skin health just in time for summer. You do not have to be a member of the Lima YMCA to take part in the event.
