LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – More than 150 people laced up their shoes Saturday morning to run for a good cause at Lima Memorial Health System.

This marks the second year for the hospital’s Milestones in Motion 5K run and walk. The event began in 2024 to commemorate Lima Memorial’s 125th anniversary, with organizers aiming to celebrate the milestone by promoting a healthy lifestyle in the community. In addition to the 5K, participants also had the option to complete a one-mile fun run. Proceeds from the event benefit the Samaritan Fund, which helps patients in need with items or transportation when they are discharged from the hospital.

“We wanted to do something for one of our charities or one of our causes here in hospital, and this one seemed to be the one that needed it the most. We've provided a lot of food and clothes and transportation back from the hospital for those who don't have any support when they get home. So, we're very happy that we were able to support this and doing something that the community enjoys,” said David Pauff, Point of Care Director at Lima Memorial.

“We're super excited. We're getting a lovely day today, and we really built on the excitement from last year. We were celebrating the 125th anniversary last year, and we're just kind of rolling with it. We had a great outcome last year and this year is this bigger yet,” said Sam Schroeder, LMHS Lab Director.

Lima Memorial plans to continue hosting the 5K fundraiser again next year.
