COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Just over $396,000 was raised at the Ohio State Fair's Sale of Champions, with several local students earning top prizes for their hard work.
Allen County's Victoria Gossard's reserve grand champion market barrow brought in $30,000.
Alexandra and Alivia Kinney, from Logan County, brought in $22,000 and $15,000, respectively, for their grand and reserve champion turkeys.
Also from Logan County, Jada Shroyer received $12,000 for her reserve grand champion market goat.
Amelia Baumer and Alaina Topp, both from Shelby County, and Olivia Dicke of Mercer County combined milk from their dairy champions with milk from other exhibitors to produce the grand champion Swiss cheese, which sold for $50,000.
Of the $396,000 raised, $270,000 will go toward the Virgil Strickler Youth Reserve Program, which has awarded more than $5 million in scholarships since it began 30 years ago.
