LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Big election season is on its way, and with that comes the responsibility to register to vote.
The deadline to register for the May 5th primary is April 6th. The qualifications to register are being a citizen of the United States, 18-years-old by November 3rd, and a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days before the election takes place.
Election officials say that all voting matters, whether it be local or national. This specific election will cover nominees such as senator and governor.
The winners of the primary will become the party's candidates in the November 3rd general election.
"Getting the word out is very important. I would always say, if somebody feels very strongly about a candidate, make sure you talk to your friends, talk to your family, make sure they know when election day is. Just encourage people to get involved and to vote," says Morgan Bode, Director for Allen County Board of Elections.
By spreading the word about voting, everyone has a chance to let their voice be heard the upcoming elections. Be sure to register if you haven't through your county's board of election.
