LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Things got a bit messy at the Lima Public Library on Wednesday morning.
Library staff got the idea for a "Messtival" after seeing the concept in online library groups, giving children a chance to have fun and make a mess.
Activities included a shaving cream table, marble art, a temporary tattoo station and a kiddie pool filled with spaghetti noodles.
While making a mess is usually discouraged, parents said it was fun to watch their children enjoy themselves. Staff members said they hope the sensory activities help keep children engaged ahead of the start of the school year.
"I felt like it'd be beneficial because some of the stuff that I chose purposely for them to do, like the shaving cream art, was helping them with writing," children's librarian Rebecca Gunter-Poling said. "Because with going back to school starting here soon, it's something to help them write. With the marbles, it's more of a dexterity, trying to keep their balance and stuff like that. So I figured this would be a good mixture with the children and some of the stuff maybe even potentially developing skills when they go back to school."
