LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee Local Schools are receiving a technology upgrade thanks to strong community support and a generous donation from a local gas station.
The Casey’s General Store on Shawnee Road donated $6,000 to the district’s technology classes through the company’s “Cash for Classrooms” initiative. The funds will be used to purchase several new 3D printers, allowing students to tackle larger and more complex projects in their coursework.

The Casey’s General Store on Shawnee Road donated $6,000 to the district’s technology classes through the company’s “Cash for Classrooms” initiative.
“These printers use a plastic called PLA, and the students create 3D models in an online program called Onshape,” said Justyn Rex, technician for the E-Tech classroom. “They print anything from small decorations to desk ornaments. I actually have a student right now who is 3D printing a cosplay they designed themselves.”
Jordan Vogel, a district manager for Casey’s, said the donation was part of a larger company-wide effort to support education.
“Our company raised money for all of our local schools,” Vogel said. “Anytime a customer chose to round up their purchase, all of that extra money went back into our communities, into our schools. Casey’s had the opportunity to donate to 80 schools, and Shawnee here in Lima, Ohio, was chosen as one of them.”
In addition to the donation, Casey’s also delivered 40 pizzas for the students to enjoy during the celebration.
The contribution is expected to enhance hands-on learning opportunities in technology classes and provide students with valuable experience in design and engineering.
