LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio has transitioned to a temporary location as it searches for a permanent space that better meets its needs.
The Marine Corps League lowered the flag for the final time at its West North Street location as the food pantry began moving food, shelving and other supplies to a smaller site at 1570 C North Main Street, just south of Northland Plaza. The pantry operated on North Street for 11 years, but the building was sold to make room for new housing. Despite the move, the organization will continue its mission of serving about 300 veterans and their families each month.
“We're not going to stop our continuous operation. That's one reason why we went ahead and got this new place, and we knew we only had another month or two before we had to be out. And this way we can still serve our veterans. We still want them to come in. We will still have the same food and products for them. It's just a little bit smaller place, and that is our ambition is to keep going. This is a great mission to all of us. I have 15 volunteers, over half of them are veterans themselves. So this is very important to everyone who volunteers here,” says Betsy Potts, director of the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio.
Potts says the pantry is in need of monetary donations to help with the transition to the new location. More information about the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio can be found on its Facebook page.
