LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A new memorial honoring veterans is set to take shape in downtown Lima, paying tribute to those who have fought to protect the freedoms Americans hold dear.

The City of Lima unveiled the design for the “Lima Veterans Memorial Grove,” which will be located in the southwest corner of Town Square, in front of the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. The project is a collaborative effort between public and private donors and is rooted in the vision and dedication of local veterans.

Veterans inspire new downtown memorial in Lima

The City of Lima unveiled the design for the “Lima Veterans Memorial Grove,” which will be located in the southwest corner of Town Square.

“A lot of meetings, a lot of work, a lot of opportunity, and a lot of the great people of Allen County helping us out in every way they can,” said Jeff Tracy, a Vietnam veteran and member of the Veterans Committee. “The product’s going to be made here, put here—parts of the Lima tank plant are going to help us do it. It’s just wonderful.”

The memorial will feature a 9-foot-tall engraved granite monument, topped with an 8-foot-high steel flame. Additionally, six mounted steel plaques—crafted by the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center—will represent each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The site will also include landscaped areas and seating for quiet reflection.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
