LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Vice President JD Vance spoke to a sold-out crowd at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Lima, addressing topics ranging from the conflict in the Middle East to the economy, the Trump administration’s strategy, and who he says propelled the Trump/Vance ticket to victory.
“But I think what we showed him in the Ohio GOP, is that while we had a reputation for a very long time as a purple state, or even a blue state, thanks to the hard work of people, many of whom are in this room, I think Ohio is now solidly red. It's going to stay red for a very long time,” said Vice President Vance.
Vance also shared insight into what he called the “Trump Doctrine,” laying out its approach to international conflict.
“What I call the Trump doctrine is quite simple. Number one, you articulate a clear American interest, and that's in this case that Iran can't have a nuclear weapon. Number two, you try to aggressively diplomatically solve that problem. And number three, when you can't solve it diplomatically, you use overwhelming military power to solve it, and then you get the hell out of there before it ever becomes a protracted conflict,” Vance said.
The Vice President thanked both local and state Republican leaders for their ongoing support and dedication.
“So our great GOP Central Committee man, and also the chair of the Putnam County GOP, Tony Schroeder, Tony, where are you? Man, I love you,” said Vance. “Of course, no thank you is complete in Lima, Ohio with our without thanking our great Allen County GOP chairman, Keith Cheney, who has an incredible voice.”
Vance also spoke about what it’s like to work with President Donald Trump and shared more about the moment Trump decided to select him as his running mate.
