LIMA, Ohio - The Allen County Museum’s beloved Shay Locomotive is turning 100 this year, and we’re celebrating with a weekend full of train-themed fun on September 20th and 21st! On Saturday evening, September 20th from 6 to 9 p.m., train enthusiasts are invited to a special ticketed event featuring an in-depth tour of the Model Train Room, light refreshments and birthday cake, a fascinating lecture about the Shay by museum docent Mark Billingsley, and hands-on artifact stations.
This event is free for museum members, $15 for non-members, and $25 for non-member couples. Space is limited to 100 attendees, so call the museum soon to reserve your spot. Then, on Sunday, September 21st, we’re throwing a fun-filled day for all ages! Bring the whole family to enjoy activities, sing Happy Birthday to the Shay, and indulge in some celebratory cupcakes. Whether you’re a dedicated railfan or just looking for a unique way to spend the weekend, this is one celebration you won’t want to miss at the Allen County Museum.
The Allen County Museum is located at 620 West Market Street, Lima, Ohio 45801. The Museum’s Summer Hours (June 1 – August 31, 2025) are Tuesday – Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday 1 – 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays. The Museum’s regular hours are Wednesday to Sunday 1:00p.m.—5:00 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday.
